Editorial Review for Pelletier's Restaurant – by J.P. Anderson

The Scene
You can't visit Door County without going to a fish boil; this outdoor cooking ritual has been a local tradition for more than a century. Pelletier's hosts one of the area's most popular boils: Several times every night whitefish steaks and small potatoes are cooked in a stainless-steel kettle over a wood fire. Kerosene is then poured onto the fire, causing flames to shoot high in the air and the water to boil over. When the cooking's done, retire to a table in the nondescript dining room for your just-cooked meal.

The Food
Pelletier's offers a full menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner standards (crêpes, burgers, seafood), but pretty much everyone's there for the fish boil. After all the hoopla, the food itself is an afterthought: The whitefish steaks are meaty and good, but the amount of bones make them difficult to eat. Buttery red potatoes, coleslaw and fresh, flaky cherry pie round out the meal.
